FABRIC8 GALLERIES PRESENTS

ALTERED STATES, DREAMSCAPES AND UNDERWORLDS:

NEW WORKS BY URSULA XANTHE YOUNG

fabric8 is pleased to present Altered States, Dreamscapes and
Underworlds, a solo show featuring new works by painter and illustrator
Ursula Xanthe Young.

In the first solo exhibition at the new fabric8 Galleries, Young
explores themes of other worldliness, altered states of consciousness
and the dream sequence while simultaneously expanding her own artistic
boundaries via different techniques of color, texture, and medium.

Using her recognizable urban starlets as the subjects of the visual
stories, this collection of new works focuses on the natural urge of the
human psyche to seek other dimensions -- both natural and forced -- in
search of answers to the greater existential questions of the human
experience.

Ursula Xanthe Young is a painter, illustrator, and graphic designer
whose urban fairy tale images have become a trademark of street culture
in San Francisco and beyond. Her fine-lined illustrations and colorful
modern paintings exude a style that is unique and appealing to art
lovers of all kinds. She finds inspiration in her home environment and
her travels to the far-flung reaches of the globe as well as by the
variety of beings -- both real and imagined -- that she encounters along
the way.

Ursula grew up in the green rural dales of Northern England and has
studied art in New York, Florence, Vermont, Oslo, and London. After
graduating from Parsons School of Design (BFA Illustration 1996), she
moved to San Francisco’s Lower Haight district and spent nearly a decade
there. Following a stint in Alaska, Ursula has settled in the woodlands
of Northern California.

A truly prolific artist, Young’s work can be seen in galleries,
boutiques, and salons, as well as on CD/record covers, throughout the
city of San Francisco as well as in two existing murals at fabric8.

Altered States, Dreamscapes and Underworlds will be on exhibit from
September 28 through November 3 at fabric8 Galleries, 3318 22nd Street,
San Francisco, and open 7 days a week.

The opening reception for Altered States, Dreamscapes and Underworlds
will be held on Friday, October 9, from 7pm-11pm. Ursula X Young will
also be holding SF Open Studios in the garden gallery at fabric8 on the
weekend of October 10-11, 11am-6pm.
