The 2nd annual Stachetober Fest ... better and hairier than last year.

This event was created as a fundraiser for Prostate Cancer Canada as a memorial to family members lost to this radical cancer that affects 1 in 6 men. It was also a reason to get friends together and look mighty ridiculous.

It is important to note that the reason why I did not post information prior to this event is because it was held at my house and did not wish for a nightmare house party. It was pretty well and invite only event for that reason and I think there was only 1 person that I didn't know all night.

The goal is to get all of our man friends to grow big, bushy beards well in advance then just before the event, shave them down to the most outrageous mustache imaginable. There were several categories of stache to vote upon in the chance to win prizes that were graciously donated from many local businesses.  T-shirts were also made as prizes and for purchase to help raise more funds for a larger donation. There are still a few shirts left and will be available in 'the goods' department for $20 plus shipping. Donations will continue until all the shirts are gone. The old wacky, over-weight skater guy who is just loving life and his big bushy mustache was created by fantastic SF artist, Michael C. Hsiung.

This year, we had big help from the following sponsors::

Before I get into the photos...here were the guidelines of the fest;

The rules::
Everyone MUST participate in the growing or placing of facial hair. Pairing your growth with some sort of character will surely give you special contest leverage.

Men, unless you absolutely can not grow facial hair because of your job, religion, sex life or political standing, you must have a contest worthy beard or mustache. Due to some creative growth from last years fest, the 'neard' will also be accepted.

Ladies: The term 'mustache' is not an invitation to stop waxing but if you do somehow manage to man up, I will not be held responsible for the future change of your facebook relationship status.
However, fakies, wigs and/or creative facial hair extensions are a must.

Here are some shots from last year

The evening started at 8pm and lots of hairs quickly filled the house.

Hey, that's me. (East LA Dater) this is a tribute to that awful montage of clips from an 80's dating video service. The guy behind me in the brown shirt, Chris, won the category, 'Best Over All'.

The voting station

And then for the special highlight of the evening, Vancouver artist, EarOne, starts in on the 4x4ft wood panel that was offered up for raffle. It was going to be an auction but we decided to make it a piece where pretty much everyone could get a ticket and we could still make a healthy donation to Prostate Cancer Canada.

Massive, Massive thank you to our sponsors and friends who came out and supported this event. Maybe next year I'll make it a little more public.

I'll put up these photos and more on flickr and let you know when I do.

T-shirts will be up for purchase later on tonight. Thanks again to everyone!

launch party/art show
n/aMassive THANKS to everyone who came out
for the wallfarmers(dot)ca launch party/art show
 at The Freakin Coffeeshop!

Donations ...
for those who wish to give.

Hey friends... like what we do? Want more artists featured, art shows covered, merchandise offered, then we could sure use a hand.  In turn, we will keep on keepin' on, putting on bigger art shows and digging deeper for more super rad art.

Big ups in advance!
